Rimple & Harpreet: Where Cinematic History Meets High Fashion

In an enchanting fusion of cinematic grandeur and haute couture, iconic design duo Rimple & Harpreet Narulah have teamed up with fashion disruptor Uorfi for a breathtaking shoot set in the historic heart of Old Delhi. This collaboration, captured amidst the rustic charm of Chawri Bazaar, bridges the worlds of costume and couture, showcasing the artistic mastery of a brand that has long been the cornerstone of period fashion on the silver screen. Rimple & Harpreet: Costume vs. Couture Conundrum
Two Worlds, One Fabulous Fusion

Renowned for their meticulous costume design work on films like Padmavat, Heeramandi, and the upcoming Ramayana, Rimple & Harpreet have continually shaped the visual storytelling of cinema. This latest campaign celebrates a concept often misunderstood in the film industry: the delicate distinction between the costume and the couture. “Costumes are high-end garments designed for a specific reason—be it for a character or a period piece. Couture, on the other hand, is fashion at its most extravagant and artistic,” explains Rimple Narulah. “With this shoot, I wanted to bring the two together in a way that felt both theatrical and luxurious.”

A Timeless Backdrop for Timeless Fashion
Where History and Modernity Embrace

The location, a recently restored haveli tucked within the narrow lanes of Chawri Bazaar, offers the perfect setting for this fusion of period aesthetics and contemporary couture. Steeped in history, the haveli pays homage to India’s rich textile and design heritage, grounding the campaign in a timeless atmosphere.

Heritage Meets Avant-Garde
Old Meets New in a Seamless Fashion Symphony

To bring their vision to life, Rimple & Harpreet masterfully reworked archival pieces, juxtaposing them with more recent collections to create an ensemble of couture that speaks to both history and modernity. Each look is a striking union of heritage embroidery, artisanal craftsmanship, and avant-garde silhouettes—a true testament to the duo’s skill in marrying the traditional with the cutting-edge.

Maverick Fashionista Uorfi: The Muse Merging Couture & Costume
From Icon to Muse: Uorfi in Rimple and Harpreet

Uorfi, who effortlessly embodies a theatrical muse in this campaign, wears five meticulously curated ensembles, each telling a unique story where couture meets costume. The standout pieces include the Satrangi Leheria Lehenga, a revival of a rare seven-colored leheria once made for Rajasthani royalty, paired with an archival marodi and resham-embroidered cape. Another showstopper, the Pomegranate Pink Lehenga, draws inspiration from Mughal brocade and inlay work, elevated by a crystal-encrusted blouse.

Meanwhile, a reimagined Gharchola saree adorned with semi-precious stones and glass beads is paired with archival pants for a modern twist. Dark, regal hues dominate the collection, from a velvet lehenga in oxblood red with a jeweled bustier to a gota-embroidered lehenga styled with a men’s bandhgala jacket and a zardozi-embroidered topi—each look pushing the boundaries of couture.

Uorfi’s Full-Circle Moment
When Couture Becomes a Personal Statement

Reflecting on the experience, Uorfi shares, “Rimple & Harpreet are true icons, and I’m thrilled to be working with them – who wouldn’t be! Costumes and designing have played a huge role in shaping my journey, so this shoot felt deeply personal, like a full-circle moment. It was also incredible and organic the way they approached me for this! It’s not every day you get to wear Rimple & Harpreet and this is some of the finest embroidery and Indian couture I’ve ever seen – I’m honoured to be a part of this.”

The Shoot: Where Boundaries Blur
An Unapologetic Celebration of Couture and Self-Expression

The shoot, as regal as it is daring, challenges conventions and celebrates unapologetic self-expression in couture. Blurring the lines between costume and high fashion, it redefines the possibilities of couture as a medium for storytelling and personal style.
