Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has once again seized the spotlight on India’s national tourism stage, with the state’s picturesque villages of Pranpur, Sabarvani, and Ladpura Khas earning the coveted title of Best Tourism Villages. These three gems have been recognized by the Central Ministry of Tourism for their unique blend of heritage, culture, and responsible tourism efforts. Pranpur shone brightly in the craft category, while Sabarvani and Ladpura Khas stood out for their dedication to sustainable and responsible tourism. The accolades were presented in a glittering ceremony in New Delhi on World Tourism Day, September 27th, celebrating the fusion of tradition and eco-consciousness. TheGlitz reports…

Madhya Pradesh

Magical Madhya Pradesh

Bidisha Mukherjee, Additional Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, alongside rural community representatives, received the honors, marking a pivotal moment for these rural enclaves. With this recognition, Madhya Pradesh cements its status as a leader in promoting rural tourism while preserving the cultural and natural heritage of these regions.

In a statement that captured the ethos of this initiative, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of the Tourism and Culture Department, remarked, “Pranpur, Sabarvani, and Ladpura Khas are the embodiment of our efforts to nurture rural tourism. These villages have maintained their cultural legacy while empowering local communities through tourism. We look forward to extending this model and placing more rural destinations on the global map.”

From Local Charm to Global Stage

With this prestigious recognition, the state’s rural tourism offering is set to gain global prominence. As Bidisha Mukherjee emphasized, the award is a powerful springboard that will attract both domestic and international visitors to these tranquil havens, stimulating local economies, creating jobs, and preserving the cultural and artistic heritage of these regions.

It’s worth noting that Madhya Pradesh has been steadily building its rural tourism portfolio. Last year, Madla village in the Panna district claimed Gold, and Khokhar village in Sidhi district was honored with Bronze in the same competition—setting the bar high for others to follow.

Sabarvani – The Soul of Gond Tribal Simplicity

In the serene buffer zone of Satpura National Park, the Gond tribal village of Sabarvani offers travelers a chance to reconnect with nature and indulge in rural living. Whether it’s bird-watching at sunrise or fishing in the village ponds, Sabarvani’s traditional homestays are the perfect backdrop for an authentic escape. From bullock cart rides to learning local dances like Sela and Fadravi, the village embraces its visitors with open arms and the allure of untouched natural beauty.

Ladpura Khas – Orchha’s Hidden Gem

Just 8 km from the historic town of Orchha, Ladpura Khas serves as the embodiment of responsible rural tourism. Under Madhya Pradesh’s Responsible Tourism Mission, this village offers an intimate glimpse into Bundeli life. The homestays, with their hand-painted walls and local architecture, provide a cozy base to explore the stunning hills and fields. Cultural immersion with the local community offers visitors a rich, hands-on experience that bridges the gap between tradition and modern tourism.

Pranpur – India’s First Craft Handloom Tourism Village

Situated a mere 4 km from Chanderi, Pranpur is an artisan’s paradise. With 900 weavers working across 550 handlooms, this vibrant community specializes in crafting the famous Chanderi cloth. A visit to Pranpur is more than a tour; it’s an invitation to dive into the heart of India’s textile heritage, with opportunities to witness and participate in this centuries-old craft. The village is redefining tourism by intertwining cultural heritage with hands-on experiences, providing a rich narrative beyond typical sightseeing.

As Madhya Pradesh continues to lead the charge in sustainable and immersive tourism, these villages serve as a model for how community-driven efforts can elevate a destination while keeping its essence intact. For those seeking a peaceful, culturally immersive getaway—whether through the rhythmic clatter of handlooms or the soothing sounds of nature—these villages are the new must-visit stops on India’s tourism map.
