Over To Anaar & Tanushree Biyani

What was the inspiration behind launching Anaar, and how did you envision the brand standing out in the competitive fashion footwear industry?

Anaar

I often witnessed brides struggling with uncomfortable footwear, their discomfort evident in every cautious step. This sparked a determination to reimagine bridal footwear, not just as beautiful accessories but as comfortable companions throughout the wedding festivities. The process of designing each piece is where we experiment, explore, and tell stories. We want our footwear to evoke emotions, start conversations, and accompany you to many happily-ever-afters.  The silhouettes of Anaar combine comfortable shapes with fresh designs to deliver one-of-a-kind luxury Indian footwear — a sight no guests will forget. For any occasion that demands you to be dressed up from head to toe, we promise to take care of the latter.

Every entrepreneurial journey has its challenges—what were some of the toughest obstacles you faced while building Anaar, and how did you overcome them?

Some of the toughest challenges included educating the market about the concept of bridal sneakers and breaking away from traditional norms in wedding footwear. Building trust in a niche product also required significant effort. Overcoming these hurdles involved leveraging storytelling, showcasing the craftsmanship, collaborating with well known influencers and participating in major fashion events like New York Fashion Week and India Beach Fashion Week , which boosted credibility and visibility.

Looking back, what has been the most rewarding milestone in Anaar’s journey so far, and how did that achievement shape the future direction of the brand?

The most rewarding milestone was Anaar’s debut at New York Fashion Week, marking a historic moment as the first Indian footwear brand to be showcased at this global platform. This achievement not only validated Anaar’s unique offering but also paved the way for future collaborations and collections, solidifying its position as a globally recognized luxury brand. We have also recently launched an exclusive collection with celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, a collection that combines her high fashion aesthetics with Anaar’s signature craftsmanship.

As a fashion footwear brand, Anaar combines style with comfort. What were some of the key challenges in creating designs that strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and wearability?

Designing footwear that aligns with the ornate aesthetics of bridal attire while ensuring all-day comfort was a key challenge. This required working closely with artisans to create lightweight, cushioned soles which requires a lot of technique and balancing that with the richness of traditional embroidery techniques and materials. We also kept multiple sneaker styles like flat sneakers, wedge sneakers, slip on sneakers, Lace up sneakers etc to match the comfort for each individual. . Anaar’s shapeshifting sneakers not only offer the necessary support and cushioning for all-day wear but also feature a design that seamlessly complements bridal attire.

With sustainability becoming more important in the fashion industry, how is Anaar integrating eco-friendly practices, and what role do you see sustainability playing in the brand’s future?

Anaar is committed to sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly materials and processes wherever possible and supporting fair trade practices with local artisans. In the future, the brand plans to explore biodegradable materials and enhance its eco-conscious manufacturing practices, aligning with the global movement toward sustainable luxury.

What exciting projects or new collections can we look forward to from Anaar in the near future? Are there any collaborations or innovations on the horizon that you’re particularly excited about?

We definitely have some exciting new things in our pockets for this year. Some amazing new products that we are super excited to launch. Stay tuned!
