When the Veggie Met the Carnivore

At TheGlitz, we like to say that food reviews are our version of diplomacy… where opposing food ideologies find common ground. So, when Rajeev Mokashi, an unapologetic vegetarian, and I, Sumita Chakraborty, a devout non-vegetarian, decided to give the luxe The Basileio at R Mall, Mulund, the ultimate “food litmus test,” sparks (and maybe some feta crumbs) were bound to fly.

The Basileio is a premium vegetarian restaurant that promises “regal, fine dining, Greek-inspired indulgence.” This stunningly ‘instagrammable’ place is a Hellenic haven… ornate interiors, statues of Greek Gods, and golden-gilded portraits that could make even Aphrodite pause for a selfie. Plush chairs, romantic lighting, and a layout that whispers “fine dining” louder than Dionysus after a wine festival. On weekends, there’s live music too — the kind that turns dinner into a bit of drama, a bit of delight, and a whole lot of delicious.

The Basileio

The Basileio: Dip, Sip & Flip – The Mezze Marathon

The Basileio

We started with the Mezze Platter… a Mediterranean masterpiece featuring five dips including a fab hummus and warm Pita bread. Rajeev dove in like a Greek philosopher discovering the meaning of life, while I, Sumita eyed it with the suspicion of a woman who’s been promised ‘you won’t even miss the chicken.’

But lo and behold, the platter passed the test! The Hummus was silky, the mashed potato had just the right smoky depth, and the Tzatziki was a refreshing beet cool-down. The Pita bread? Fluffy perfection. Rajeev, of course, was already declaring it “divine vegetarian diplomacy”, while I, Sumita, looked as if I was finally getting convinced about the merits of veg food.

The Basileio- Mushroom Manifesto: Croquettes of the Gods

Next came the Mushroom Croquettes… little golden globes of joy. Crispy on the outside, rich and creamy on the inside, they were a textural triumph. The flavours danced between earthy and elegant, making Rajeev hum a tune straight out of Mamma Mia. I, Sumita nodded in approval, already making a note: “Could convert a non-veg skeptic… temporarily.”

Indeed, if Zeus were hosting Mount Olympus brunches, The Basileo and these heavenly croquettes would surely be on the menu… perhaps served with a theatrical lightning bolt for garnish.

Paneer Powerplay – A Steak Out in Style

The Cottage Cheese Steak arrived looking like super yummy — all dressed up with grilled veggies, fragrant rice and a luscious sauce. The paneer was perfectly seared, juicy inside, and smothered in a creamy reduction that was bold without being bossy.

Rajeev called it “pure poetry in paneer form.” I, Sumita quipped, “If only all vegetarian steaks could make this kind of statement.” A truce, if ever there was one.

Mocktail Moments & Beery Cheers

The Berry Nice Drink

Every meal deserves liquid companions, and The Basileio doesn’t disappoint. The Greek Sunrise was a citrus symphony — sunny orange, bright, and unapologetically cheerful. The Berry Nice Drink lived up to its name, a berrylicious burst of flavour that was divine.

And because diplomacy works best over beer, two Coronas joined the table. Rajeev raised his bottle to vegetarian victory; Sumita toasted to “carnivore curiosity well-fed.”

Dessert Divine – Biscoff Bliss

Just when we thought the evening had peaked, dessert descended like Aphrodite herself. The Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake Mini was luscious little bites of creamy decadence. Crunchy, smooth, and utterly sinful — they managed to be both indulgent and dainty.

Rajeev savoured every bite; I, Sumita said what we were all thinking: “If heaven has dessert, it tastes like this.”

TheGlitz Final Verdict – Greek Meets Chic

I, Sumita, admit and Rajeev concurs… The Basileio isn’t just a premium vegetarian restaurant… it’s an ode to culinary artistry dressed in Greek grandeur. Whether you’re a lifelong vegetarian like Rajeev or a meat-lover like me, Sumita, this place charms, surprises, and utterly satisfies.

From its opulent interiors and thoughtful plating to its fusion flavours that flirt with finesse, The Basileio proves that vegetarian food can be just as indulgent, exciting, and downright regal as any meaty menu.

A special shout-out to Washim Mondal, who served us with charm and precision… a veritable fountain of knowledge about every dish on the menu. Ever attentive, he’d rush to our table at just a beck and smile, and then get a flurry of delectable dishes. Jaimala and Maitri, our gracious PR & Event hosts, along with Operational Manager Viraj, ensured our lunch flowed smoother than a glass of Greek Sunrise. Their warmth and professionalism elevated the experience, making us feel like royalty at a Hellenic feast.

In short?
If Zeus ever threw a dinner party in Mulund, he’d book The Basileio, and we’d RSVP in a heartbeat.
