True Diamond

In a luxury landscape where values are fast replacing vanity, and transparency is the new brilliance, Darayus Mehta, Co-founder of True Diamond, is quietly rewriting the rules of fine jewellery. At the crossroads of science, sentiment, and style, Darayus Mehta champions lab-grown diamonds not as a compromise, but as a confident evolution… optically identical, ethically sound, and designed for a generation that prizes choice, individuality, and meaning over inherited notions of rarity.

With an uncompromising focus on innovation, True Diamond has emerged as a disruptor with intent… introducing breakthrough cuts, unconventional metals, and full price transparency, while preserving the emotional symbolism that has always defined diamonds.

For Darayus Mehta, luxury lies in freedom: the freedom to customise, to upgrade, to express oneself without being bound by outdated rules or opaque supply chains. His vision reflects a new-age aspiration, where trust fuels desire, provenance enhances beauty, and design leads the conversation.

In an exclusive interview with Sumita Chakraborty, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, TheGlitz, Darayus Mehta, Co-Founder, True Diamond speaks about redefining diamonds for a future driven by values, innovation, and unapologetic self-expression.

Lab-grown diamonds are redefining luxury. What was the pivotal moment that convinced you this was not just an ethical alternative, but the future of fine jewellery?
The trigger that truly shifted our perspective was seeing how consumer mindsets were changing globally. People are becoming more informed and questioning why mined diamonds were expensive largely due to supply chains, not rarity. Lab-grown diamonds are optically physically identical, fully certified, and far more accessible. Today’s consumers want choice, flexibility, and value. They no longer want to lock their money into a single piece, but prefer multiple options that reflect their evolving style. That shift made it clear to us that lab-grown diamonds are not just ethical, but the future of fine jewellery.

True Diamond positions itself at the intersection of science, sustainability, and sentiment. How do you preserve the emotional symbolism traditionally associated with diamonds while embracing laboratory innovation?
For us, every ring carries a story of a moment worth celebrating. By offering 100% customisation, we let customers shape their rings around personal emotions, milestones, and preferences. Laboratory innovation allows us to deliver this freedom with greater transparency, ethics and precision, while the sentiment remains untouched. The science stays in the background, and the meaning, emotion, and memories remain at the heart of every piece. And a diamond is a diamond, no matter where it originates

The biggest resistance to lab-grown diamonds often comes from perception rather than quality. What misconceptions have you encountered most, and how is True Diamond actively reshaping the consumer mindset?
When we started True Diamond, our vision was very clear. We wanted to educate people about what lab-grown diamonds really are. Most people were misinformed and believed they were fake or had no resale value. We took the effort to explain that lab-grown diamonds are 100% real, optically identical, and certified by the same global authorities such as IGI and GIA. To build further trust, we introduced lifetime buyback and exchange policies, helping customers feel confident while upgrading or changing their designs.

As the Co-Founder, how do you balance price transparency and accessibility with the aspiration and exclusivity that luxury consumers still seek?
For us, transparency builds trust and trust fuels aspiration. We are completely open with our customers, sharing a full price breakup at the time of purchase with nothing hidden. At the same time, we believe exclusivity comes from innovation, not opacity. We create desire by introducing what no one else is doing, through bold content and breakthrough drops like the Portuguese Cut, the world’s brightest diamond with 160+ facets and 3x sparkle, the Kashi 108 Cut, Titanium Rings, and Black and Champagne Gold. This balance keeps luxury honest, exciting, and truly aspirational.

In a market where provenance is becoming as important as brilliance, how does True Diamond ensure traceability, trust, and certification for its customers?
Traceability and trust are built through complete transparency at every step. Once an order is placed, we share detailed updates with customers, including regular progress messages that explain exactly which stage their ring is in. We also share CAD designs, giving them a full 3D view of their vision before creation begins, followed by updates when the diamond moves into setting. Every piece is delivered with proper certification with the certificate number lazered on the girdle of the solitaire too, without exception, and we also offer complimentary insurance. For us, clarity, communication, and certification are non-negotiable.

Looking ahead, how do you see True Diamond influencing design innovation?

Design is at the heart of everything we do. As a designer rings atelier, our goal has always been to create ideas that people never imagined were possible. In a short span, we have introduced bold innovations like Black and Champagne Gold, Titanium Rings, the Portuguese Cut, Kashi 108 Cut, and the Lily Cut, with many more on the way. We do not want to be another average brand. We want to shape the future of ring design, so that when people think of innovation, they think of True Diamond first.

Finally, if the next generation defines luxury through values rather than rarity alone, what legacy do you hope True Diamond will leave in reshaping how the world perceives diamonds?
We want the world to experience diamonds beyond tradition and rarity, as bold, playful expressions of individuality. For us, diamonds are not reserved for rules or rituals, but for real moments, personal stories, and self-celebration. Through fearless design and unapologetically bold content, we challenge old perceptions and make diamonds feel fluid, expressive, and deeply personal. If True Diamond leaves a legacy, it will be this shift in mindset, where diamonds are worn for joy, identity, and confidence, not just for milestones, but for the person you are.
