Chakori Dwivedi on writing ‘Jee Liya’ for Tu Yaa Main
A Song That Breathes, Not Performs
Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav’s song ‘Jee Liya’ in the film ‘Tu Yaa Main’ stands out, and how! It arrives like a soft pause… gentle, grounding, and deeply felt. The evocative romantic track from Tu Yaa Main has quietly but powerfully captured the imagination of listeners, emerging as a love hued song for Gen Z romance. At the heart of this understated beautiful song is multifaceted actor-lyricist Chakori Dwivedi, whose writing brings a rare emotional restraint to the song. TheGlitz reports…
Tu Yaa Main’s Song ‘Jee Liya’ Stands Out

Starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor, Tu Yaa Main explores modern intimacy through subtle glances and unspoken truths. In fact, ‘Jee Liya’ underscores a pivotal moment in the narrative, deepening the evolving bond between the protagonists without ever demanding attention. Instead, it lingers… like a feeling you don’t want to name too quickly.
The Making of a Modern Love Ballad
Unlike traditional Bollywood love songs that thrive on dramatic crescendos, ‘Jee Liya’ chooses stillness. What we especially loved is that Chakori’s lyrics leaned into lived-in emotion… to a love that feels safe, warm, and quietly transformative. Its romance stripped of spectacle, instead… replaced with vulnerability, comfort, and personal freedom.
Why the song resonates effortlessly with today’s listeners and is finding its way into late-night playlists, long drives, and Valentine’s season moods is because the lyrics are amazingly romantic. Its warmth has also translated beautifully to live audiences, notably at the recently concluded Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, where it struck a collective chord.
Creative Trust and Collaborative Energy

We asked Chakori how did the ‘Tu Yaa Main’ journey start? Reflecting on the creative journey, Chakori shares that the collaboration began through a recommendation from her actor friend Dheer Hira. Having previously worked with Adarsh Gourav on an independent track, the foundation of trust was already in place.
“When Adarsh approached me with ‘Jee Liya’, he had a very clear emotional core in mind,” she recalls. “That clarity gave me a beautiful starting point as a writer. The process involved a lot of exploration and fine-tuning, but what really stood out was the creative freedom he extended to me.”
The Multi-faceted Adarsh Gourav
Adarsh not only stars in the film but also co-composed the track alongside Aditya N, creating a seamless synergy between sound and sentiment. Once completed, the song found an unexpected champion in director Bejoy Nambiar, who instantly connected with its emotional honesty. So moved was he by the lyrics that he decided to include the track in the film and later requested a duet version, now part of the official album.
“I didn’t want the lyrics to feel loud or performative,” Chakori explains. “I wanted them to feel like a quiet exhale… the relief of finally allowing yourself to feel something without fear.”
When Words Find Their People
The response to ‘Jee Liya’ has been nothing short of overwhelming. For Chakori, the most rewarding aspect has been watching listeners claim the song as their own.
“When you write from a personal, honest place, you always hope it resonates,” she says. “But seeing people fall in love with the words, find their own meanings, and carry the song into their everyday moments… that’s incredibly fulfilling.”
