You’ve redefined the luxury invitations space in India… what inspired you to transform something as traditional as an invite into a collectible work of art?

Puneet Gupta: I’ve always believed that an invitation is the first emotional touchpoint of a celebration—it sets the tone, the mood, the anticipation. When I began, I felt there was a gap between functionality and feeling. Invitations were informative, but not immersive. Coming from a design background, I wanted to approach them like couture—where every detail is intentional, every element tells a story. That shift—from paper to experience—is what led me to transform invites into collectible pieces of art that people don’t discard, but preserve.

Your designs beautifully blend Parisian sophistication with Indian craftsmanship, how do you strike that balance while ensuring each creation feels globally relevant yet deeply rooted?

Puneet Gupta: For me, it’s never about fusion for the sake of it—it’s about harmony. Indian craftsmanship has an incredible depth of detail and storytelling, while Parisian design brings restraint, proportion, and elegance. I often take a traditional Indian craft—be it embroidery, miniature painting, or textile art—and present it through a more global, contemporary lens. The idea is to create something that feels rooted in culture, yet speaks a universal design language. That balance is what makes the work travel across geographies.

From creating for the IIFA Awards to celebrity weddings, your clientele is incredibly high-profile… how do you personalise each invitation to reflect the unique story and personality of your clients?

Puneet Gupta: No two stories are the same, and that’s where the process begins—with listening. I spend time understanding the client’s journey, their memories, their aesthetics, even their quirks. Sometimes it’s a shared love for travel, sometimes it’s a cultural narrative, sometimes it’s something as personal as their pets or their favourite city. These nuances then translate into design—through motifs, materials, formats, and storytelling elements. Personalisation, for me, is not surface-level; it’s about creating something that feels intimately theirs.

The 2024 IIFA invitation… a bespoke leatherette suitcase filled with curated treasures, is a true statement piece. What was the creative thought process behind conceptualising something so immersive and experiential?

Puneet Gupta: With IIFA, the brief itself was larger-than-life. I wanted the invitation to mirror the glamour and scale of Indian cinema, but in a way that felt curated and collectible. The idea of a suitcase came from the concept of travel—cinema travelling across borders, stories moving from India to the world. Inside, each element was designed like a discovery, almost like opening chapters of a story. It wasn’t just an invitation; it was an experience that unfolded layer by layer, much like cinema itself.

You’ve pioneered India’s first virtual reality-based invite… how do you see technology reshaping the future of luxury invitations and experiential gifting?

Puneet Gupta: Technology is opening up an entirely new dimension of storytelling. With VR and AR, invitations are no longer static—they can be immersive, interactive, even cinematic. I see a future where physical and digital coexist seamlessly—where a handcrafted invitation might unlock a virtual experience, or where AI personalises storytelling for each guest. That said, I don’t believe technology will replace craft; it will enhance it. The future lies in this synergy between the tactile and the technological.

Luxury today is increasingly tied to sustainability… how do you incorporate conscious practices and materials into your creations without compromising on opulence?

Puneet Gupta: True luxury today is mindful. We consciously work with recycled papers, sustainable materials, and long-lasting formats that extend beyond single-use. The idea is to design pieces that don’t feel disposable—invitation boxes that can be repurposed, objects that become part of one’s home.

When something is beautifully made and thoughtfully designed, it naturally carries longevity. Sustainability, for me, is not a limitation—it’s an opportunity to create with greater intention.

As someone who has revolutionised an entire category, what’s next for Puneet Gupta Invitations… and how do you envision the evolution of luxury stationery and gifting on a global stage?

Puneet Gupta: I see the brand evolving into a larger universe of collectible design and experiential luxury—where invitations, gifting, and objects blur into one cohesive narrative. Globally, there is a growing appreciation for craft-led, story-driven design, and India has an incredible voice in that space. The future of luxury stationery lies in creating pieces that are not just beautiful, but meaningful—where design, culture, and innovation come together to create something timeless.
