Patang’s The Pitara Diwali hamper was sent to TheGlitz for review, and it took us straight back to our childhood Diwali revelries that included tempting gift hampers with delectable munchies and everything to do with food being passed around, pickle jars being opened, diyas glowing in corners and somebody inevitably demanding a game of cards.

And we were indeed delighted to find inside a delicious little tour of India — from Bambai Mixture and Ratlami Sev to Sattur Seeval, Dilli Gur Chana, Lonavala White Til Chikki and two seriously intriguing pickles — accompanied by mitti diyas and a deck of cards. A Box Designed to Be Kept

The box itself is part of the proposition. It is designed as a keepsake, rather than disposable festive packaging that has its moment and disappears. That makes sense for a Pitara. The word evokes a box of treasures… things collected, discovered and revisited. Here, the packaging sets up precisely that feeling. Open it and there is a sense of exploration rather than the predictable unveiling of a dozen branded products. It is festive without being excessively ornamental.

Seven Flavours, Seven Little Journeys

The food selection is where the box really begins to tell its story. Inside the hamper there was three craft snacks – Bambai Mixture, Ratlami Sev and Sattur Seeval. Each brings a distinctly different regional personality to the table. Bambai Mixture is the familiar Mumbai-style indulgence; Ratlami Sev brings its characteristic savoury punch; and Sattur Seeval introduces a South Indian regional speciality that may be less familiar to some consumers.

Then come two sweets: Dilli Gur Chana and Lonavala White Til Chikki. Both have an appealing homespun quality. Gur, chana, til and chikki belong to that vocabulary of Indian snacking that predates the arrival of glossy gourmet hampers and that is precisely why they work here.

The two pickles, meanwhile, turn up the flavour considerably: Amdavadi Aam Chunda and Banarasi Bharwa Lal Mirch. One brings the sweet-tart character of mango chunda; the other delivers the more assertive personality of stuffed red chilli pickle.

Together, the seven edible offerings make the box feel less like a single food category and more like a small edible map of India.

Not Just Something to Eat

The smartest part of the Pitara is that Patang doesn’t stop at food. There is a pair of handmade mitti diyas, which immediately brings Diwali’s ritual and craft traditions into the box. They aren’t just decorative filler; they reinforce the festival itself.

Then comes one deck of playing cards… perhaps the most playful inclusion which we absolutely loved …because Diwali is all about cards, conversation, laughter and lights. This is where the hamper moves beyond being a collection of consumables. It attempts to create an emotion.

Simple Ingredients, Strong Provenance

Patang’s emphasis on simple ingredients, no palm oil, no preservatives and touch-free packing adds another reassuring dimension. The brand also says it sources its products from their place of origin, which gives the regional selection greater relevance.

For me, the provenance is particularly important. When a hamper carries names such as Ratlami Sev, Sattur Seeval, Amdavadi Aam Chunda and Banarasi Bharwa Lal Mirch, those names should mean something beyond clever labelling. The pleasure is in discovering the differences between India’s food cultures rather than flattening them into one generic idea of “Indian festive food.”

The Patang Pitara Diwali Edit 2026 gets something increasingly difficult right: it doesn’t confuse abundance with luxury.

There are seven carefully chosen edible treats, handmade diyas and a deck of cards but the real offering is the story connecting them. Mumbai, Ratlam, Sattur, Delhi, Lonavala, Ahmedabad and Banaras find their way into one box, creating a fantastic festive journey that feels personal, nostalgic and distinctly Indian.
