The Winning Home Bakers: Father-daughter duo Arun Chaudhary & Khushboo Chaudhary

How did the Mr. Moustache’s Cakes journey started and why the name Mr. Moustache’s Cakes?

Mr. Moustache’s Cakes began its journey in 2019 in Gurugram, when a simple Sunday baking ritual of baker dad turned into a passionate business venture. We thought it’s time to transition from the traditional offerings like Chocolate Truffle and Black Forest to offer a variety of cakes to our audience like Lamington, Pineapple upside down etc. The name “Mr. Moustache’s Cakes” is a nod to my dad who is the baker, who also has a moustache.

You are an adorable pair of father and daughter… How do you handle the day-to-day workings together?

MMC is operated by a father-daughter duo who had the idea to add sweetness to people’s lives without compromising on health. Both of us were captivated by the concept of a cloud kitchen, leading to a plan where I manage the business while my dad operates the oven and creates new recipes. My dad dedicates most of his time to baking and crafting innovative recipes, while I remain glued to the laptop, developing creative strategies to help our business thrive. I am also responsible for organising and managing pop-up events in corporate offices and coworking spaces in Gurgaon. We adapted to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by investing heavily in research and development, as our entire operation could be conducted from home. This allowed us to continue our work without any disruptions, making us more resilient in the face of the crisis.

What are the challenges and setbacks you have faced? And what have you learnt from these past lessons?

Our journey has been marked by a series of challenges and setbacks, as is the case with any business. We’ve come to understand the importance of staying innovative and remaining attuned to the latest market trends. Trends change overnight and you have to keep evolving according to it. From arranging tin cans of bento to finding moulds of chocolate, we are on our toes all the time. Beyond this, we’ve discovered the significance of economies of scale and ingredient standardisation as powerful tools to manage costs and enhance profitability.

What are the three milestones you are incredibly proud of?

Reflecting on our journey, there are several milestones that fill us with immense pride. One such pivotal moment occurred in 2019 when we became the official gifting partner for Ramola Bachchan’s Housefull exhibition. Our work has also received accolades and recommendations from reputable platforms such as Tripadvisor, What’s Hot, LBB, TOI food, and Humans of Delhi. Additionally, we had the privilege of clinching the prestigious Big F Awards for the Best Home Baker in Gurgaon, an accomplishment that is etched in our memory as a testament to our dedication and passion. Our bestsellers, rum balls, and Baileys cheesecakes, have also played a crucial role in our success.

You have won the Popular Choice Awards 2023 for Best Home Baker, what sets Mr Moustaches Cakes apart from the rest?

What truly sets Mr. Moustache’s Cakes apart is the unique combination of a passionate father-daughter duo and the interesting fact that the dad auditioned for Masterchef. Moreover, our distinctive offerings, including an alcohol-infused menu, sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan, and eggless options, cater to a diverse range of tastes and dietary preferences. We provide custom-made cakes, allowing customers to choose not only the flavour but also the specific details of their cakes. We offer delivery services within Delhi NCR, including midnight deliveries, a unique feature that sets us apart from many other bakeries. Our ability to adapt and innovate, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, has made us more resilient and has set us apart in the competitive bakery industry.
