It’s Bollywood time in Bengaluru! AGP World, a trailblazer in Indian entertainment, is set to dazzle Bengaluru with its globally acclaimed musical comedy, Blame It On Bollywood, for a super entertaining one-night-only spectacle at the Prestige Centre for Performing Arts on April 5, 2024. Fresh from standing ovations across the world, this high-energy theatrical extravaganza returns with a renewed spark, blending humor, drama, and music into an unforgettable experience.

In collaboration with Yash Raj Films (YRF), this spectacular production celebrates the grandeur of Indian weddings, woven with YRF’s most iconic melodies and the timeless legacy of Yash Chopra, the father of romance in Bollywood. Helmed by Ashvin Gidwani, Founder and Producer at AGP World, the show promises to be a larger-than-life theatrical experience, redefining musical theatre. Blame It On Bollywood is such a unique concept. What inspired you to bring this celebration of Bollywood to life, and how did the idea come about?

Bollywood is more than just films… it’s an emotion, a part of our culture, and something that connects people across generations. Bollywood actually disrupted the wedding scene in India which was a one day affair to a 10 day mega event. This is what triggered the idea with Yash ji to bring that story to stage. With Blame It On Bollywood, I wanted to bring that larger-than-life Bollywood experience to the stage in a way that audiences can feel every bit of the drama, music, and magic live. At AGP World, we focus on creating immersive experiences, and this show is a tribute to the heart and soul of Bollywood.

How has the show evolved over time, and what can audiences expect in this new edition of the show in Bengaluru?

We launched it as Blame it on Yashraj many years back and this is the new avatar Like Bollywood itself, this show keeps evolving. Over time, we’ve refined the storytelling, enhanced the production scale, and made it even more engaging for audiences. The Bengaluru edition will have all the signature elements… drama, romance, comedy, and fantastic music but with some fresh surprises. Audiences can expect high-energy performances, stunning visuals, and a story that celebrates everything we love about Bollywood.

Bollywood has such a vast cultural influence. How do you ensure that the magic of this gorgeous Tinsel Town is captured authentically in your production?

It’s a story of a boy meets girl from different cultures and how their families come together in the most comic situation. Authenticity comes from understanding what makes Bollywood special – the emotions, the larger-than-life storytelling, and the deep connection it creates with the audience. We work with a passionate team of writers, directors, choreographers, and musicians who bring that same energy to the stage. Every detail, from the dialogues to the dance sequences, is designed to stay true to Bollywood’s essence while creating a dynamic live experience.

With such a huge fan base of Bollywood in Bengaluru, how do you think the city will respond to Blame It On Bollywood? Are there any specific elements of the show you think will particularly resonate with the audience there?

We see Bengaluru as a very important market as the IT & Startup industry has converged from all over the country where all communities live. We are focusing on bringing professional theatre to Bengaluru and a variety of different genres. The city is known for music and comedy but if we continuously deliver good content it will build overtime.

Bengaluru has a vibrant arts and entertainment culture, and Bollywood has a special place in the hearts of people here. The city’s love for music, dance, and storytelling makes it the perfect place for Blame It On Bollywood. I believe the humor, the drama, and the high-energy performances will truly resonate with the audience. Plus, the show is designed to be a complete entertainer… whether you’re a die-hard Bollywood fan or someone who enjoys great theater, there’s something for everyone.

As the founder of AGP World, you’ve been behind many successful productions. What makes Blame It On Bollywood stand out from your other projects?

It’s a great story which has a good mix of comedy, music, dance, technology and most importantly great celebrated actors from film & television. At AGP World, every production is crafted with a unique vision, but Blame It On Bollywood is special because it taps into a deep cultural sentiment. It’s not just a play… it’s a celebration of Bollywood’s storytelling magic. Unlike a traditional theater performance, this show is high-energy, interactive, and visually spectacular, making it an unforgettable experience for audiences.

The show seems to have a great mix of music, dance, and drama. Can you tell us a bit about the creative team behind the scenes and how they bring Bollywood’s magic to life?

A show like this is only possible with an incredible creative team. We have some of the best minds in the industry… from choreographers who have worked on Bollywood films to musicians and set designers who understand how to translate cinema’s grandeur to the stage. Every aspect of the show, from the lighting to the costumes, is meticulously designed to capture the Bollywood essence while keeping the live performance experience unique and engaging.

Bollywood is known for its larger-than-life moments and glamorous storytelling. How do you balance staying true to Bollywood’s essence while creating a live theater experience for the audience?

Live theater has its own charm, and the challenge is to bring Bollywood’s grandeur to the stage without losing its emotional depth. We focus on strong storytelling, dynamic choreography, and engaging performances that pull the audience in. The goal is to make people feel like they are inside a Bollywood film… laughing, crying, and celebrating along with the characters.

What do you hope the audience will take away from the show? What’s the lasting impact you want Blame It On Bollywood to have on them?

I want people to walk away feeling energized, entertained, and deeply connected to the magic of Bollywood. Whether it’s nostalgia, joy, or a newfound appreciation for live theater, I hope Blame It On Bollywood leaves a lasting impression. At its core, the show is about celebrating the stories that make us laugh, cry, and dream… and that’s what Bollywood has always been about.
