Kona Kona

Tucked away in a warm, welcoming corner… or should we say kona… of the bustling Kuber Complex on Veera Desai Road, Andheri, lies Kona Kona, a newly launched All-day Restobar that already feels like a local favourite. TheGlitz dropped by to review this cozy new restobar that’s raising the bar – literally and gastronomically!

With renowned actor Mona Singh of Jassi fame at its helm, the restaurant exudes a charming blend of laid-back luxury and artistic flair. It’s not just the promise of good food that draws you in, but also its unique setting… a thoughtfully designed chilled out kona in the heart of Mumbai’s urban chaos.

Kona Kona Bursting With Flavour, Fun & Fabulous Vibes!

Kona Kona

The first thing that strikes you as you walk into Kona Kona is its ambience. The interiors are relaxed and stress-free… almost like a mood board of rustic chic. The exposed brick walls, pops of earthy greens, and standout-yet-cohesive furniture pieces create a space that’s both Instagrammable and deeply comforting. Dimly lit pendant lights dangle delicately from the ceiling, casting a reddish golden glow over wooden tabletops. Potted plants in corners, contemporary wall art, and quirky design touches subtly echo a vintage cafe-meets-lounge aesthetic. It’s the kind of place where conversations stretch lazily, where first dates bloom into second ones, and where old friends reunite over a round of drinks.

Speaking of drinks, we began our culinary journey with a refreshing Belgian Witbier and a glass of fresh orange juice… simple yet superbly executed. The Witbier, in particular, was a standout. Crisp, citrusy, and incredibly sessionable, it was the kind of drink that demanded refills, and we gladly obliged, thrice to be precise. For anyone who appreciates a good craft beer or for that matter, any other beer, Kona Kona hits all the right notes.

From Sips to Spice, Kona Kona Has You Covered

Now to the food… oh, the food! We started with the tangy Kabuli Chana, an unexpectedly hearty and flavour-packed dish that set the tone for the rest of the meal. Next came the flavorful Kona Fried Chicken, a house special that combined golden-crisp batter with succulent, juicy meat. The delectable Chicken Gulzar Kebab followed… aromatic, tender, and perfectly charred on the outside, it was a kebab that delivered both on spice and soul.

For something with a twist, we tried the Darjeeling Chicken Jhol Jhal Momo. This fusion of Himalayan-style dumplings in a tangy, fiery curry sauce was a burst of flavour in every bite… spicy yet comforting, and unlike anything we’ve had before. The Auli Chicken Tikka too, was a revelation… delicately spiced, smoky, and melt-in-the-mouth.

We rounded off the main course with a truly bold dish: Chicken Kala Masala with rice. Rustic, spicy, and deeply satisfying, this Maharashtrian-inspired curry was comfort food elevated to gourmet levels but we do admit, we found it a tad spicy. Just so that it’s told, Kona Kona had a lot of mouth-watering veggie delights too but since we were in the mood for chicken, it was indeed chicken all the way!

As for the service, it was top-notch. Ajit, the manager and the bubbly, ever-smiling Diya Mahyavanshhu deserves a special mention. Diya’s attentiveness and warmth, and Ajit’s in-depth knowledge of the menu made the experience all the more enjoyable. It’s rare to find service that strikes the perfect balance between professional and personal… Ajit, Diya and team nailed it.

If we had to pick a bone, it would be the absence of desserts. We were told that no sweet dishes were available and it was admittedly a downer… especially after such a delicious meal. A soft chocolate cake or even a house-made kulfi would have been the perfect curtain call. The chefs at Kona Kona are you listening?

TheGlitz Verdict: Kona Kona: The New Cornerstone of RestoBar in Andheri

Still, despite the missing sweet note, the experience at Kona Kona was more than satisfying. It offered everything we look for in a great restobar… stellar food, chilled out ambience, craft drinks, and heartfelt hospitality. The place feels curated yet casual, trendy, fun yet soulful… just like its owner Mona Singh herself.

Kona Kona Delivers Charm, Chat, and Chicken Done Right

The food was flavourful, the beer flowed freely, and the vibe was warm and inviting. Whether you’re dropping in for a chilled-out evening or planning a laid-back evening of drinks with friends, Kona Kona is a culinary gem waiting to be explored.

TheGlitz was invited to review this delightful new restaurant, and we thought it was truly amazing and we foresee it becoming a crowd fave soon.
