Tammy

It all began with the charismatic man-about-town Mario Ferreira leaning in and saying, “You have to listen to Tammy & Roy.” And once we did? There was no going back. One song led to another, nostalgia danced with joy, and before we knew it, we were completely hooked… on the harmony, the warmth, and that unmistakable Goan glow that spills out every time they perform.

What started as a lockdown lark… two musicians refusing to let music sit quietly indoors… has grown into one of the most heartwarming success stories of our times. From intimate online singalongs that soothed lonely living rooms to packed cafés, glamorous ballrooms, and celebratory stages across India and beyond, Tammy & Roy’s journey is proof that when music is honest, it travels far…. and straight to the soul.

As they celebrate their 5th Anniversary Tour, Tammy & Roy aren’t just marking years on a calendar; they’re celebrating community, connection, and a fiercely loyal global family that has grown one song at a time. Blending retro classics, pop favourites, Goan rhythms, and timeless love songs, Tammy’s powerhouse vocals paired with Roy’s effortless keys turn every performance into a feel-good celebration where hearts sway and feet follow.

From Goa to Mumbai, Bengaluru to Kolkata, Dubai to Abu Dhabi, Uganda to Kenya… and with more cities still lining up… Tammy & Roy is not just a tour, it’s a movement powered by rhythm, nostalgia, and pure joy. And the best part? The story is still unfolding.

Here’s Tammy from Tammy & Roy, in an exclusive interview with Sumita Chakraborty, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, TheGlitz, as she takes us behind the music, the magic, and the moments that made it all possible.

Tammy & Roy: How a Goan Duo Turned Nostalgia into a Global Musical Movement

Tammy, how did Tammy & Roy come together as a duo?

Tammy
Tammy & Roy

Tammy: We actually started about eight years ago. Both of us were part of different full-fledged bands at the time. Someone casually asked if we could perform as a duo, and we thought… why not? That’s how it began. Initially, we were mostly playing at restaurants, and honestly, at that point, not many people knew us beyond the Goa circuit.

And then the pandemic changed everything?

Tammy: Completely. When the pandemic hit, we started going live on Facebook and YouTube. One particular live session on August 30, 2020, really changed things for us. Audiences connected deeply. Everyone was lonely, isolated, and suddenly our music gave them a sense of Goa… through Konkani songs, old classics, and familiar melodies. It became a nostalgic walk down memory lane for many people, reminding them of childhood and family moments. That emotional connection was the turning point.

Your music beautifully blends retro classics with contemporary songs. How do you curate your setlists?

Tammy: These are the songs we grew up listening to. My grandfather, my parents, Roy’s parents… they all played this music at home. It naturally became our favourite genre. These songs are timeless. Contemporary music comes and goes, but artists like Jim Reeves, Engelbert Humperdinck… never grow old. We’ve just added our own style and interpretation to make them uniquely ours.

You’ve also released original music. What inspired that?

Tammy: During the pandemic, we suddenly had time… mental space. Life slowed down. One day, while I was literally doing the dishes, lyrics just came to me. I write all the lyrics, Roy composes the music. That’s how our originals came to life.
Our songs are Silver Linings, Live Again, and Picture Union. We’re also releasing a new original in 2026.

Your journey has gone from Goa to global stages… Canada, Australia, Dubai, Uganda. How has that transition been?

Tammy: The interesting thing is… the music remains the same. We don’t change our playlists based on countries. It’s the same music resonating everywhere. What unites our audience is the shared love for these songs.
Our fans across countries have actually become friends with each other. People who met through our shows, now travel together, chat regularly, and even rediscover lost connections.

Your fan base goes beyond Goans too, right?

Tammy: Absolutely. While Goans across the world connect deeply with our Konkani sets, we also have Mangaloreans, East Indians, Anglo-Indians, Sri Lankans, and even a group from Karachi called the Canorients, now based in Canada. Music truly has no borders.

Could you tell us some personal aspects about Tammy & Roy that people may not know?

Tammy: We’re not married anymore. We were married and later divorced, but we’re very good friends, business partners, music partners, and we co-parent our two grown-up children… one 19, the other 17. Musically, we gel beautifully. Our vocals blend naturally, and that harmony is something special. We keep it pure… just vocals, no electronic enhancements.

Your online community grew rapidly during lockdown. How did that happen organically?

Tammy: We started small… it was about 30 people watching our first live. Then people began booking us for online birthday parties, anniversaries, even memorials. These became global online gatherings, shared with families across continents. That sharing is what truly made us viral.

You’ve often spoken about music as healing. Any moment that truly defined this belief?

Tammy: Yes, there have been so many instances. There was a man undergoing cancer treatment who told us he listened only to our music while driving to and from radiation therapy. Stories like these made us realise that what we do truly matters.
We’ve also seen a profound connection with differently-abled children… music helping them express, calm, and heal. That’s incredibly humbling.

How does your Goan identity shape your performances?

Tammy: Very organically. We perform largely at Goan-run restaurants, open-air spaces, places that reflect Goa’s soul. Our music includes Konkani, Portuguese touches, retro classics, and a little Bollywood… because we’re Indian too. Goa is about collaboration, not competition. That spirit defines us.

Looking ahead, what’s next for Tammy and Roy?

Tammy: We’re currently on our 5th anniversary tour, celebrating five years of going live. We’ve already toured cities across India and internationally… Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kenya… and more are coming.
We also hosted our first global fan meet in Kenya with fans flying in from the US, Australia, and Dubai. The next global fan meet is planned for Sri Lanka and Maldives in May next year. And of course… a beautiful new original song is in 2026.

Finally, what keeps you going?

Tammy: Music never feels like work. No matter what mood I’m in, the moment I start singing, everything lifts. If our music can heal, connect, and bring joy—that’s exactly what we were born to do.
