Chowman

When TheGlitz received an invitation to dine at Chowman, Andheri, Mumbai, we knew we were in for an indulgent culinary affair. After all, Chowman from the City of Joy, has fast become a name synonymous with flavour-packed Chinese food that combines tradition, innovation, and impeccable service in one delightful bite.

Chowman

So there we were making our way to the charming Chowman, tucked away in a bustling neighbourhood of Andheri, Mumbai that welcomes you with a striking façade that sets the mood for what lies ahead. As we stepped in, we were instantly wrapped in an atmosphere that felt part-oriental haven, part-modern sanctuary. The interiors struck a fine balance between minimalism and rich detailing… bamboo-panelled walls, elegant flooring, Asian art accents, and warm lighting created a space that felt both intimate and Instagram-worthy.

The space though a tad small, made sure that the seating was plush and thoughtfully spaced, ensuring that every table had its own little world.

But let’s dive into what we were really there for – the food!

We began our culinary adventure with the Chowman Favourite Soup – a steaming, fragrant bowl that delivered a soulful, umami-laden start to the meal. Rich in flavour and generously packed with chicken, it set the perfect tone for the dishes that followed.

Smokey Chicken

For appetizers, we ordered the Smokey Chicken, which arrived like a rockstar, perfectly grilled with a hint of smokiness that made each bite an event. Then came the Kolkata-style Chilli Chicken, a nod to the city’s beloved Indo-Chinese legacy. It was everything we hoped it would be – spicy, crispy-edged, and unapologetically bold.

Kolkata-style Chilli Chicken

Next up: Chilli Garlic Noodles (Chicken) – fiery, fragrant, and cooked to perfection. We paired it with the Chowman Special Rice, a delicious mix that danced between subtlety and flair, thanks to a blend of sauces, veggies, and succulent chicken. The Hong Kong Chicken added a wonderful tangy-sweet contrast, and the Chicken Cashewnut with Dry Red Chilli was, quite frankly, addictive. The crunch of cashews, the zing of red chilli, and tender pieces of chicken created an unbeatable trio.

To keep things cool and refreshing, we ordered a cucumber Lemonade and a classic Coke. The cucumber lemonade deserves a special mention… it was crisp, light, and the perfect palate cleanser between rich bites.

Darshan with Ice Cream

Now for the grand finale: dessert. We opted for the Chocolate Mousse, which was okay. But the real show-stealer was the Darshan with Ice Cream: crispy golden noodles bathed in honey, paired with a scoop of vanilla. It was theatrical, delicious, and oh-so-satisfying.

TheGlitz Says:

A big shout-out to Dhiraj, who was courteous, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout. His recommendations were spot-on, and his warmth made our experience even more enjoyable.

If we had to nitpick – the parking situation could be a tad tricky during peak hours. But once you’re inside, the world outside ceases to matter.

Debaditya Chaudhury

And why not? Behind this well-oiled culinary operation is the dynamic Debaditya Chaudhury, a restaurateur with a sharp eye for quality and consistency. His passion is evident in every dish, every detail, and every happy customer walking out with a satisfied smile.

TheGlitz Verdict?

Eating out at Chowman, Andheri, Mumbai, is indeed an experience that tantalizes the senses and leaves an impression long after the last chopstick is laid down. From its immaculately styled interiors that transport you to an elegant Oriental escape, to its carefully curated menu that effortlessly fuses bold flavours with comforting familiarity, Chowman hits all the right notes.

The ambiance whispers sophistication, yet the food roars with personality… a rare balance that few establishments manage to strike. Every dish is a thoughtfully plated expression of tradition with a modern twist, appealing to both the seasoned gourmand and the everyday foodie. The service, warm and intuitive, completes the trifecta of excellence.

The Chowman Story

Though this started as a restaurant review, we were fascinated by Chowman’s story. So here goes… Amidst the booming presence of Chinese eateries that echo the legacy of Kolkata’s rich Chinese diaspora, Chowman was born out of an artist’s desire to deliver not just food, but an experience steeped in authenticity. Conceptualized in 2010 by the multi-faceted Debaditya Chaudhury, an avid traveller, passionate foodie, and founder-member of the iconic Bangla rock band Lakkhichhara, Chowman set out on a flavoursome journey to bring traditional Chinese cuisine straight to the heart (and plate) of Bengal.

From the very first outlet, the mission was clear: to offer a genuine Oriental affair. The interiors were inspired by the classical, rustic charm of ancient China… a meticulous architectural vision brought to life with imported Chinese culinary tools and décor sourced directly from China and Hong Kong. The result? A setting that whispers elegance and radiates authenticity. But then it travelled… What began as a humble dream has now grown into a culinary empire, with Chowman making waves far beyond the City of Joy. Today, it boasts multiple outlets not only across Kolkata but also in the high streets of Bangalore and now in amchi Mumbai, winning hearts (and tastebuds) with its commitment to quality, style, and soul

So, did it live up to our expectations? Oh, yes! Stylish interiors, soulful food, and service that’s warm and top-notch… Chowman is a delicious marriage of spice and sophistication. Every detail… from the lighting to the plating… speaks of passion, precision, and panache. The menu reflects this ethos perfectly, balancing bold traditional Chinese flavours with the evolving palate of Indian food lovers. Whether it’s the umami-rich chicken chilly or the silken threads of a well-brewed Chowman Favourite soup, each bite transports you to a different world… rich, layered, and oh-so-satisfying.

So yes, TheGlitz raises a toast (and our chopsticks!) to Chowman – a masterclass in how to make Chinese dining chic, charming, and unforgettable.

Chopsticks up – we’re fans!
