Divya Dixit

Your journey has had many momentous milestones. Could you tell us about your life-changing journey that has moulded you to be what you are today?
I began my career in retail with plans to hopefully become a CEO in that space, however, life had other plans with my husband deciding to move to Mumbai and so I walked into this city with nothing in hand. Destiny bought a retail and broadcast offer and from there my media journey began; moving across telecom and then music and then digital. I am one of the very few people who has had the honor of launching a broadcast channel, a telecom brand as well as an OTT platform. It was much before that OTT had become rage that I decided to try my acumen there; intuition or foresight, I don’t know. A leap of faith for sure, as neither the OTT market was as vast as today nor did I have any experience but I have always taken chances… Today OTT is the mainstream platform for entertainment even for masses and digital revenue has overtaken broadcast revenue in many countries.

Could you list 3 of your major achievements?
– Balancing the act of being a working woman at leadership, being a hands-on mother and homemaker.
– Launching and sustaining new business – a broadcast channel (UTVi), a telecom brand (Tata Docomo) as well as an OTT platform (Zee5).
– Building Brands and Contributing to Democratization of OTT – ALTBalaji

What are the setbacks you have faced? How did you tackle these setbacks or challenges? And what lesson have you learned from it?
Let’s call them challenges… And I have been lucky that I have had a family who walks the talk with me all the way. However at large what I have observed is that at times women leaders struggle to be heard and have a seat at the table. …Which is a tragedy as they bring EQ along with IQ that creates a much more inclusive and non-conflicting work environment whether across teams or running operations or external partnerships. Also, I believe one professional challenge that exists across industries is Brand snobbery; evaluation of people should be on the basis of their merit and results, and not on the basis on which brand they have worked for last.

When you look back, what are the three qualities in you that have helped you become what you are today?
My mental strength, my never-say-die attitude and my famous follow-ups when I want the job done!

Wind behind her wings: Divya Dixit’s family

Who are the people who have been the wind behind your wings?
My husband. We got married very early and I did my MBA post-marriage. We were two broke people living together and he decided to give up his studies and work so I could complete mine. Today he runs his own business and I couldn’t be prouder of him. But I wouldn’t be what I am, if he wasn’t there.

Lastly, if there was a quote to define you, what would it be?
This Kickass woman continued…..
