What Inspired You to Start Casa Di Lusso, and How Does It Reflect Your Personal Design Philosophy?
I always had a knack for spotting beauty in the most unexpected ways and areas and had the rigour to create magic through my design language. The launch of Casa Di Lusso stemmed from an innate need to create soulful spaces that blend seamlessly with nature, offering a classy and vintage ambience.
My design inspiration also comes from my travels across the country and the world – from Marrakesh to Doha and Buenos Aires to Jaipur – which exposed me to the various nuances of architecture and design. From featuring rooms adorned with zellige and intricately carved plaster columns, along with architectural details like star-shaped polygons to walls stones with silk wallpapers and Versace cutlery, my travel experiences have shaped my perspective towards design to offer a judicious blend of modern design integrated with the old world charm.
A common aspect of my designs is the presence of quiet luxury whereby incorporating a palette of neutral colours combined both classic and contemporary elements, incorporating textures through the use of rugs, curtains, throw pillows, and blankets which enhances the ambiance.
What Are the Key Elements You Consider When Designing a Luxurious Yet Functional Space?
While the definition of luxury greatly varies from location to location and person to person, it essentially trickles down to one’s personality and lifestyle. Here, incorporating depths in the design along with factoring in natural elements and vintage products help create a sense of luxury. Using large canvases in this scenario acts as an immediate statement while making it a great conversation starter. Similarly, adding a pop of colour and dimension by painting an accent wall will make for a bold design move while creating a highlight of the space. This will add a pop of colour and dimension to your space without breaking its aura.
Furthermore, textures oozes extravagance and can go a long way in creating soulful spaces. This can mean a velvet couch paired with a faux fur throw pillow in the living room or adding stone and wood textures in the kitchen or layering with a mix of heavy to light fabrics for your windows to provide depth to the space. This variation in incorporation of textures also helps in breaking away from a monochromatic setup to neutral tones.
How Do You Stay Ahead of Trends While Ensuring Timelessness in Your Designs?
When it comes to interiors, I truly believe that designs always remain timeless and ages like fine wine es even more as years pass by. At Casa Di Lusso, I strive to design properties which are closer to nature and typically integrate natural elements in their developments such as stone and bamboo to enhance the overall atmosphere. My projects are a living canvas where I love to pour my heart and soul into creating fascinating interiors that strike a chord with its inhabitants. I also believe in the fact that familiarity fosters comfort, which is why designs are a fine mix of client’s nuanced choices while catering to the architectural needs of the place, thereby bringing feelings of calmness and restfulness.
Can You Share an Example of a Design Challenge You Faced and How You Overcame It?
Design offers challenges as well as opportunities at every juncture due to the varied nature of requirements for different clients. The challenges could range from limited space to bringing functionality with taste while bringing design excellence to the table. In the case of residential spaces, it becomes our world and we want to incorporate as many elements to give it the desired look and feel. Most of the pieces that look beautiful may not be useful in everyday life and they take up a bulk of space. Unfortunately, this leads to cluttering of the space and non-efficient utilisation of spaces and so as designers, it becomes important to bring a fine balance between taste and functionality along with arriving at a common ground in terms of expectations of the clients.
In case of limited spaces, we aim to use that space for multiple purposes, either for entertainment, we use it as a family den while not compromising on the functionality of other spaces. Also, there is always the problem of a room or a space with odd angles which can be solved by adding thrift finds, unique pieces, thereby making it the centre of the house.
What Are Your Top Tips for Someone Looking to Elevate Their Home’s Décor Without a Major Renovation?
In all my designs, there is a sense of minimalism which plays a crucial role in creating a clutter-free environment while decongesting one’s thoughts. As for someone looking to redesign their home’s decor, decluttering should be the first and most important step which leads to more space and openness. This should be followed by integrating the right ambience light by using a mix of natural and artificial lighting to create a warm aura all around the house. Research suggests that decluttered, airy and naturally lit up homes help enhance the mood of the house while creating a healthy and sound environment inside. This has been my guiding philosophy while designing or renovating a place and remains core to my vision of building comfortable and healthy zones.
Three milestones you are exceptionally proud of?
My journey with interior design began when I did up my own house and the feeling of everything coming together turned out to be better than how I imagined. This propelled me into designing space for others and there has been no looking back ever since. Over the years, my love for design and achieving a fine balance of handling intricate spaces with tastefulness and functionality has been one of the biggest milestones so far.
I’m equally proud to have maintained the quality of my work despite an increase in the number of clients which is essential for designing intricate spaces. Here, an important milestone has been being able to bring the client onboard with this idea and their trust has been a testament to the value I brought in. I truly believe that one doesn’t need too many things in our living spaces and one should buy only what they need, thereby eliminating the chances of hoarding. This is something which I try to achieve with every client of mine and have been able to execute those successfully thus far.
Thirdly, functionality has been a top priority for us as we believe that design is not always meant to make a space look aesthetically pleasing but should be functional, offering storage spaces to make it look larger, solve a purpose and not be there only for the visuals. So functionality merged with taste, aesthetics and other milestones is something that I enjoy achieving in all my projects
