Did you know that ‘ghost tourism’ is really big globally? In fact, on my trip to Ireland a few years back, I was asked by an Irish tourism executive if I was interested in having a tryst with the paranormal, and go on a ‘ghost trail’, needless to say, a petrified me scooted… the opposite direction. But it did get me thinking.

So for TheGlitz, I stepped into the ‘ghostly’ terrains of India and came out feeling super scared! So tighten your seatbelt and get ready to be very afraid as TheGlitz lists some of the spookiest places in India.

Nestled amidst the Aravalli Range in Rajasthan, Bhangarh Fort is perhaps India’s most famous haunted site. Legend has it that the fort was cursed by a sorcerer, leading to its abandonment and subsequent haunting. Visitors have reported experiencing eerie phenomena such as disembodied voices, strange apparitions, and an overwhelming feeling of unease. The Archaeological Survey of India has even prohibited entry to the fort after sunset, further fueling its reputation as a paranormal hotspot.

Dumas Beach, located near Surat in Gujarat, is known for its picturesque shoreline and stunning sunsets. However, beneath its serene exterior lies a darker side. Visitors have reported hearing mysterious whispers, seeing shadowy figures, and experiencing an inexplicable sense of dread as they walk along the beach at night.

The area has a palpable sense of foreboding, with many visitors reporting feelings of being watched or followed as they explore the haunted hillside.

Ramoji Film City, one of the largest film studios in the world, is a popular tourist attraction in Hyderabad, Telangana. However, beneath its glitz and glamour lies a darker side. Rumors abound of paranormal activity on the film sets, with staff and visitors alike reporting encounters with restless spirits. Strange occurrences such as lights flickering, equipment malfunctioning and unexplained noises have led many to believe that the studio is haunted by the ghosts of actors and crew members who lost their lives during filming.

Brij Raj Bhavan, a heritage hotel located in Kota, Rajasthan, is said to be haunted by the ghost of Major Burton, a British officer who was killed during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. Guests have reported encountering his spirit wandering the halls of the hotel at night, dressed in full military regalia. Some have even claimed to have been touched or spoken to by the ghostly apparition, leaving them shaken to the core.
