Fabels
I’ll admit it… I walked into the luxe Fabindia showroom at Krishna Curve opposite Juhu Garden, Mumbai, carrying a healthy dose of scepticism. The occasion was the launch of Fabels, Fabindia’s much-anticipated premium westernwear label. My first thought was simple: Why?
Who am I? I am Sumita Chakraborty, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, TheGlitz. Having spent over 25 years discovering, reviewing and celebrating the finest in luxury, fashion and design, I have learnt that true style isn’t created by labels alone… it is born from craftsmanship, storytelling and soul. So why was I sceptical… let me explain…
For decades, Fabindia has occupied a unique space in India’s retail landscape. It wasn’t merely a fashion brand; it was a movement that celebrated India’s artisans, indigenous crafts, handwoven textiles and centuries-old traditions. It wore its Indianness with quiet pride. So, the idea of Fabindia venturing into premium westernwear left me wondering whether it might dilute the very DNA that had made it iconic.

It was a question I put straight to the charismatic Ajay Kapoor, President – Retail, Fabindia. His answer was both thoughtful and reassuring. “Fabels speaks directly to the global citizen who craves the precision of modern craftsmanship alongside the rich stories of Indian artisans. This sub-brand bridges the gap between global aesthetics and traditional artistry, creating pieces that are built to be lived in.”
To get to know Fabels better, he invited us for an immersive walkthrough of the store. And somewhere between the first rack and the last, my scepticism quietly disappeared.

Where Global Meets Indian

This wasn’t Fabindia trying to imitate Western fashion. Nor was it Indian craft awkwardly stitched onto Western silhouettes.
Instead, Fabels feels like a natural evolution… an elegant conversation between two worlds. Think impeccably tailored shirts softened with hand embroidery, flowing dresses brought alive with Ajrakh and Indigo prints, relaxed linen separates elevated by artisanal textures, and contemporary co-ords that retain the unmistakable warmth of Indian craftsmanship. There is restraint here. Nothing screams for attention.
Instead, every garment whispers quality.
Luxury You Can Feel

In an era where “luxury” is often confused with oversized logos and fleeting trends, Fabels embraces a far more enduring philosophy. Luxury lies in the fabric. Luxury lies in the craftsmanship. Luxury lies in the details. Designed specifically for the “Global Traveller with an Indian Soul,” Fabels masterfully blends international silhouettes with the soulful, handcrafted heritage that has defined Fabindia for decades.
Running my fingers across the natural linens, breathable cottons and beautifully textured weaves, I realised these were garments designed not merely to be worn but to be experienced.
The women’s collection moves effortlessly between sophisticated dresses, elegant tops, structured linen trousers and fluid separates that can transition from boardroom meetings to leisurely brunches.
For men, crisp straight-cut shirts, relaxed Cuban shirts, layering jackets, drawstring trousers and refined casual wear offer understated sophistication without sacrificing comfort.

Every silhouette is contemporary, yet every fabric carries the unmistakable imprint of Indian artistry.
Craft Takes Centre Stage

Perhaps the most delightful surprise was discovering just how deeply Indian craftsmanship remains woven into the collection.
Traditional techniques including Ajrakh printing, Dabu, Indigo dyeing, Dori embroidery and handcrafted textiles appear not as decorative afterthoughts but as integral elements of the design language.
The accessories are equally compelling. Silver jewellery handcrafted by artisans, jute totes, supple leather sling bags, silk stoles, loafers and braided chappals complete looks that feel worldly without losing their roots. Nothing feels forced. Everything feels authentic.
A Brand with a Soul

What impressed me most wasn’t simply the clothing… it was the philosophy behind it. Fabels isn’t attempting to replace any western brand. It is quietly creating an identity of its own. It is expanding its story.
Today’s Indian consumer is increasingly global. They travel, work across cultures and appreciate international design, yet remain deeply connected to their heritage. Fabels understands this duality beautifully.
It speaks to the woman who could be attending a meeting in Mumbai today, strolling through Florence tomorrow and enjoying brunch in Singapore next week… all while carrying a quiet piece of India with her.
It speaks to the man who values impeccable tailoring but also appreciates the story woven into every handcrafted fabric. Priced from ₹1,599 onwards, Fabels makes premium craftsmanship and contemporary design surprisingly accessible, proving that timeless style need not come with an extravagant price tag.
TheGlitz Take – Fabels More Than Fashion

As I left the showroom, I realised that I hadn’t simply attended another fashion launch. I had witnessed the birth of a brand that understands today’s India… confident, global, sophisticated and unapologetically rooted.
I had arrived wondering whether premium westernwear could ever sit comfortably under the Fabindia umbrella. I walked away convinced that Fabels doesn’t abandon Fabindia’s legacy… it reimagines it for a new generation.
And perhaps that is its greatest triumph. Fabels isn’t about choosing between East and West. It’s about wearing both with effortless grace. And just so that you know, Fabels has standalone stores in Delhi NCR and exclusive collections are available across select Fabindia Experience Centres pan-India.
