TheGlitz discovers Sophisticated Serenity, a 4,500 sq. ft. four-BHK residence at DLF Magnolias, Golf Course Road, Gurugram, designed by House of Lalittya to embody precisely this understated elegance. Led by Principal Designer Shivani Gupta Mittal and Principal Architect Ayush Mittal, this gorgeous home is an exercise in restraint, where contemporary sophistication is softened by earthy materiality, tactile textures and the quiet poetry of Japandi design.

Sophisticated Serenity – A Softer Definition of Luxury

Conceived as an expansive open-plan home, Sophisticated Serenity is a departure from the firm’s more familiar design language. Here, House of Lalittya explores a calmer, more restrained aesthetic, bringing together Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth to create interiors that feel sophisticated without ever becoming formal.

The brief from the homeowners was beautifully uncomplicated: create a home that felt calm, inviting and impeccably composed, while remaining practical enough for everyday life. Openness was central to the vision. The living, dining and common areas needed to flow naturally into one another, yet retain enough definition to give each space its own character.

The result is a home that feels simultaneously expansive and intimate. There is room to breathe, but never a sense of emptiness. Every element appears to have been considered for its contribution to the whole.

The Art of the Neutral

The colour story is deliberately quiet, allowing material and texture to take centre stage. Ivory, taupe and sand tones create a soft foundation, while deep walnut and earthy browns lend depth and gravitas. Rather than relying on ornamentation, the interiors derive their richness from tonal layering and subtle contrasts.

Warm wood finishes sit alongside soft fabrics, tactile surfaces and carefully selected marble accents. Marble appears sparingly, almost as a punctuation mark, introducing moments of refinement without disturbing the home’s overall softness.

This is where the design’s Japandi influence becomes particularly apparent. Clean architectural lines are balanced by rounded, sculptural furniture forms, while the neutral palette creates an almost meditative continuity from one room to the next.

Open, Yet Intimate

The living and dining areas form the social heart of the residence, unfolding into one another with an effortless sense of movement. The furniture is sculptural but inviting, with soft-edged forms that encourage relaxed conversations as readily as more intimate gatherings.

Instead of visually separating every function, the design uses subtle changes in furniture, material and lighting to establish zones. The result is an open-plan environment that feels structured without appearing segmented.

Fluted wall panels bring rhythm and shadow to selected surfaces, while rich wood veneers add warmth. Integrated shelving and bespoke panelled walls reinforce the architectural language, allowing storage and display to become part of the overall composition rather than competing with it.

There is a deliberate quietness to the detailing. Nothing feels excessively decorative; instead, craftsmanship reveals itself through proportion, finish and execution.

Light as a Material

Lighting plays a particularly important role in creating the home’s atmosphere. Recessed profiles provide a soft architectural wash, while sculptural pendants and carefully placed accent fixtures introduce pools of illumination throughout the spaces.

The lighting strategy enhances rather than overwhelms the interiors, allowing shadows to become part of the visual narrative. During the day, the warm palette and natural materials create a grounded, organic quality; by evening, diffused illumination transforms the residence into a more enveloping sanctuary.

Each bedroom is composed with a light touch, allowing proportion, texture and craftsmanship to take precedence over embellishment.

The effect is quietly luxurious: spaces designed not to impress at first glance, but to become increasingly comforting the longer one inhabits them.
