Some of the most compelling fashion stories are born not out of spectacle, but out of proximity… shared space, shared time, shared restlessness. Tanira emerged quietly in Delhi, shaped by two women separated by nearly two decades, yet united by a singular belief: that comfort, when designed with intent, can be the most powerful expression of elegance.

Himanshi Nagpal, 23, is all instinct and immediacy… creative, passionate, impatient, and deeply attuned to how clothing feels on the body before it is ever seen. Prabhmit Kaur, 46, brings a counterbalance of composure and precision…. measured, operationally sharp, and guided by the long view. Their meeting was unplanned. Their alignment, unmistakable.

What began as conversation… late evenings, shared observations, repeated frustrations with restrictive fashion… slowly took form as Tanira. The brand is a reflection of Founders Himanshi Nagpal and Prabhmit Kaur’s dynamic: fluid yet structured, intuitive yet disciplined mindsets. Himanshi’s velocity meets Prabhmit’s restraint, creating a design language that moves confidently without excess.

Launched just eight months ago with a tightly edited collection of six pieces, Tanira quickly found its audience. Its now-signature one-size philosophy… engineered to fit bodies from a 32 to a 42 bust, redefines inclusivity not as compromise, but as craft. The silhouettes are considered, the ease intentional, the elegance effortless.

Beyond form, Tanira is anchored in purpose. Giving back is not positioned as charity, but as responsibility, woven seamlessly into the brand’s growth.

In an exclusive conversation with Sumita Chakraborty, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, TheGlitz, founder Himanshi Nagpal speaks passionately about how Tanira… shaped by a dialogue across two generations… proves that true luxury lies in restraint, resonance, and the quiet confidence of clothing that simply understands women, offering something far rarer: longevity.

Let’s begin with the name. Tanira has a soft yet strong resonance. What does the name mean to you, and how does it reflect the soul and intention of the brand?

Tanira signifies softness balanced with strength. The name carries a calm, feminine grace while reflecting quiet confidence and timeless beauty.

This meaning aligns with the brand’s vision of comfort and elegance, where comfort is the foundation and elegance flows naturally. Tanira creates pieces that feel gentle on the skin yet refined in design, expressing effortless sophistication.

Tanira was incorporated just eight months ago, yet it already has a clear identity. What was the personal or professional moment that made you feel, “This brand needs to exist”? How did you start your journey

Tanira was born from a personal need for clothing that felt comfortable yet looked refined. While pursuing ACCA in Delhi, I often expressed my desire to create something of my own, driven by a strong creative urge and a sense of dissatisfaction. Living with my co-founder Prabhmit Kaur, these conversations turned into a shared idea to start a brand together.

She’s 46 years old, and I am 23. I first met her while I was studying for ACCA. At that time, I was living in her two-room apartment, which she had put up for paying guests. Over time, we became like family. Working with her has been an incredible experience in so many ways. At my age, I tend to make quick decisions and can sometimes be a bit reckless, especially when it comes to finances or managing risks like dead stock. Prabhmit grounds me, and she balances my fast execution with her detail-oriented approach. This combination has created a strong synergy where my energy and speed are complemented by her careful planning and expertise.

We created Tanira and began by addressing the gap for all-day comfort with elegance, starting with just six pieces. The response was so encouraging that we expanded the collection by the second month itself. Passion was the true force behind Tanira’s beginning.

Comfort is often underestimated in fashion. You’ve chosen to make it visible, confident, and striking. How did you arrive at the philosophy that comfort doesn’t need to blend in… it can stand out?

Comfort shapes confidence. I realized that when you feel comfortable, it naturally shows in how you carry yourself. That’s when I understood that comfort doesn’t need to stay in the background.

At Tanira, we design comfort to stand out through refined silhouettes and thoughtful details, proving that ease and elegance can be confident and striking together.

One of Tanira’s most distinctive pillars is its one-size fitting philosophy, designed to fit bust sizes from 32 to 42. What were the biggest design and technical challenges in perfecting this innovation so early in the brand’s journey?

For us, the one-size fitting philosophy came very naturally. The designer we worked with in our early days introduced this idea, and it worked so well from the start that we decided to continue with it. Instead of being a challenge, it became a strength for Tanira.

This approach not only allowed us to comfortably fit bust sizes from 32 to 42, but also helped us streamline production, reduce inventory costs, and stay efficient as a young brand. Most importantly, it aligned perfectly with our vision of comfort and ease, making the design process simpler while keeping the focus on refined, wearable silhouettes.

As a young label, what have been some of the most defining hurdles you’ve faced… whether in production, sizing, consumer perception, or building trust in a crowded fashion market?

As a young label, our biggest hurdle was fulfilling production requirements. Managing quantities, timelines, and quality with limited resources was challenging in the early stages.

Overcoming this helped us build stronger systems and stay committed to Tanira’s standards in a competitive market.

Tanira is built not just on aesthetics, but on purpose. Giving back has been integral from day one. Why was social impact non-negotiable for you, and how do you envision this evolving as the brand scales?

Social impact was non-negotiable for me because it is non-negotiable in my life as a human being. I was raised with the value of helping those in need, and that mindset naturally flows into everything I create, including Tanira.

Giving back isn’t a separate initiative for the brand, it’s part of its foundation. As Tanira grows, I envision this impact scaling alongside it, allowing us to support more people, create meaningful initiatives, and stay true to the values we were built on from day one.

The story of Tanira is also the story of two women, nearly two decades apart in age, building a dream together. Tell us more about this partnership? How has this intergenerational partnership shaped your creative process, decision-making, and brand values?

Our age difference has turned out to be a real advantage. I bring energy, quick ideas, and fast execution, while she grounds decisions, ensures precision, and keeps our financial and operational setup strong.

This balance of speed and careful oversight has shaped our creative process, guided every decision, and strengthened our brand values. It allows us to move quickly without compromising on detail, helping Tanira grow thoughtfully, efficiently, and with purpose.

Looking ahead, what milestones would make you pause and say, “This is what Tanira was meant to become”—and what do you hope women feel when they slip into a Tanira outfit five years from now?

For me, the milestones that would make me pause and say, “This is what Tanira was meant to become” are when the brand is recognized not just for its aesthetics but for its philosophy of comfort, elegance, and purpose being embraced by women everywhere. It’s about creating a label that stands for thoughtful design, sustainability, and meaningful impact while staying authentic and accessible.

Five years from now, I hope every woman who slips into a Tanira outfit feels effortless confidence, ease, and truly herself. I want her to feel comfortable in her skin, empowered by her style, and connected to a brand that cares about her experience as much as the look. Tanira is about making women feel graceful, grounded, and unapologetically comfortable in their own presence.
