In an exclusive interview with Sumita Chakraborty, Editor-in-chief, TheGlitz, Rohini Bagla, the visionary behind The Maple House interiors speaks about her core design philosophy behind The Maple House and more…

The Maple House

What was your core design philosophy behind The Maple House, and how did you balance contemporary luxury with functionality?
The core design philosophy behind The Maple House was to create a refined, modern sanctuary that exudes luxury while catering to the daily needs of its occupants. We envisioned a space that elegantly combines contemporary aesthetics with practical functionality, making it both visually striking and livable. Clean lines, a minimalist approach, and a neutral palette punctuated with bold accents served as our foundation. The integration of plush materials like marble, granite, and hardwood, along with luxurious textiles, added an opulent touch, while smart storage solutions and integrated furniture ensured efficient space utilization. This harmony between luxury and practicality transforms The Maple House into an inviting home that prioritizes comfort without compromising on elegance.

This project is all about creating a home that mirrors the owner’s style. Can you describe the process of understanding their vision and translating it into the design of the space?
Understanding our client’s vision was a collaborative journey that began with in-depth consultations to grasp their preferences, lifestyle, and functional needs. We delved into their aesthetic desires and aspirations, translating these into design elements that reflect their individuality. For instance, the master bedroom’s serene and elegant atmosphere aligns with the client’s desire for a luxurious retreat, while the daughter’s vibrant personality is expressed through the playful yet calming teal and white palette. Every choice, from the materials to the bespoke accents, was made to resonate with the client’s tastes, ensuring that the final design is not only a reflection of their style but also a space where they can truly feel at home.

How did you ensure that The Maple House maintained a cohesive flow between the existing architecture and the new design elements you introduced?
Maintaining a cohesive flow between the existing architecture and our new design elements was achieved through a careful balancing act. We respected the original structure’s essence while introducing modern touches that enhanced its character. The seamless integration of clean lines and a neutral color palette laid the groundwork for visual continuity throughout the space. We utilized high-quality, consistent materials like marble and hardwood across different areas, ensuring an uninterrupted aesthetic. Additionally, our strategic use of lighting not only highlighted key design features but also created a unified ambiance that tied the entire residence together. This thoughtful approach allowed us to blend the old with the new, crafting a harmonious and coherent design.

Opulence and comfort often seem like opposing concepts. How did you manage to blend these two qualities seamlessly in the interiors of The Maple House?
Blending opulence with comfort requires a nuanced approach, and at The Maple House, we achieved this by selecting elements that embody both. Luxurious materials such as plush velvets, rich marbles, and polished woods were used to create an upscale aesthetic, but these were paired with soft furnishings, ergonomic furniture, and layered textures that invite relaxation. For example, the marble sofa back wall in the living room adds a touch of grandeur, but it is balanced with cozy seating that encourages unwinding. The master bedroom’s subtle gold accents lend a sophisticated feel without overwhelming the senses, creating a serene environment. The result is an interior where the lavishness of the design enhances rather than detracts from the comfort of the space.

What are the standout features or elements in The Maple House that you feel truly reflect your design aesthetic, and what makes the residence unique in terms of luxury living?
The standout features of The Maple House are its meticulous attention to detail, innovative use of space, and the seamless blend of luxury with functionality. The marble accent wall in the living room acts as a statement piece, embodying our aesthetic of understated opulence. The smart integration of storage solutions throughout the flat showcases our commitment to combining beauty with practicality. The master bedroom, with its subtle color palette enhanced by refined gold accents, is a true reflection of our design ethos, which emphasizes elegance through restraint. What sets this residence apart in luxury living is its ability to cater to diverse needs — from the serene master suite to the lively daughter’s room — all within a compact, cohesive framework that never compromises on the feel of indulgence.
