Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is traditionally a celebration of a very personal bond — the thread of a rakhi tying siblings together in love, affection and protection. But sometimes, the most beautiful celebrations are the ones that make that circle a little wider.

This Raksha Bandhan, The Orchid Hotel Mumbai did just that, turning the festival into a warm celebration of inclusion, community and human connection in association with the National Association for the Blind (NAB) India. And TheGlitz was delighted to look beyond the festivities and spotlight the beautiful human story at their heart — a celebration where every thread connected, every gesture mattered and every smile became part of the occasion.

Raksha Bandhan – A Celebration That Began With a Welcome

The day began simply, but meaningfully, with a warm welcome for members of NAB India, followed by breakfast at the hotel. Soon, the lobby became a lively creative space as participants gathered for a Rakhi-making activity.

Colourful threads, festive details and handcrafted rakhis came together as the participants created something that was more than a festive accessory. Each rakhi carried a little piece of the joy of the occasion — and, importantly, an invitation to share that joy.

The handcrafted rakhis were then tied to guests at the hotel, transforming what could have been a conventional festive activity into a lovely exchange between people who may otherwise never have crossed paths.

From Making Rakhis to Making Connections

There was something particularly poignant about the simplicity of the gesture. A rakhi is, after all, a thread. Yet its meaning lies entirely in what it represents — care, respect, affection and the promise of being there for another person.

At The Orchid, that sentiment extended beyond the traditional brother-sister relationship. The celebration became about the larger idea of looking out for one another and recognising that community is built through countless small moments of connection.

The festivities continued at South of Vindhyas, where the NAB guests were hosted to a special dining experience. Around the table, the celebration moved naturally from creativity to conversation, food and companionship — precisely the kind of shared experience that makes hospitality feel genuinely human.

A Personal Touch From The Kamat Hotels Leadership

Adding to the warmth of the occasion was the presence of Dr. Vithal Venkatesh Kamat, Chairman, Kamat Hotels India Limited, who joined the celebrations and spent time interacting with the participants.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Kamat highlighted the deeper meaning of Raksha Bandhan — a festival rooted not merely in ritual, but in care, respect and togetherness. His words reflected an important philosophy: that hospitality should extend beyond the walls of a hotel and into the community it belongs to.

Gaurav Shiva, General Manager, The Orchid Hotel Mumbai, echoed this sentiment, emphasising that every element of the celebration was designed around participation and inclusion — from making the rakhis to sharing them with hotel guests and enjoying a meal together.

Hospitality With Heart

Raksha Bandhan

What makes an initiative like this particularly meaningful is that it doesn’t attempt to overcomplicate the idea of inclusion. There are no grand gestures required. Sometimes, it is simply about opening the doors, pulling people into the celebration and making everyone feel welcome.

The Orchid Hotel Mumbai’s Raksha Bandhan initiative with NAB India did exactly that. It created a space where festive traditions could be shared rather than simply observed; where a handmade rakhi could become a bridge between strangers; and where a meal could become an opportunity for connection.

TheGlitz Take

At TheGlitz, we firmly believe the most inspiring expressions of luxury are often not about extravagance, but about generosity of spirit. The Orchid Hotel Mumbai’s Raksha Bandhan initiative with NAB India beautifully embodies that philosophy — creating a celebration where inclusion, participation and human connection took centre stage.

…Because ultimately, hospitality is not just about how beautifully we welcome a guest. It is about how generously we welcome people into our world, creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and included.

And perhaps that is the loveliest message of The Orchid’s initiative this Raksha Bandhan: when we widen the circle of care, everyone has a little more to celebrate.
