A Night Where Glamour Met a Greater Cause

When glamour finds a purpose beyond the spotlight, the result can be truly extraordinary. At the 14th Annual Move for Cancer Awareness (MCAN) Charity Gala, fashion designer and philanthropist Maheka Mirpuri brought together some of Mumbai’s most influential names for an evening dedicated to a cause that matters deeply. Held at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, the gala witnessed an extraordinary show of generosity, with its charity auction raising an impressive ₹4.12 crore in just one hour. The proceeds will support the treatment of underprivileged patients battling head and neck cancer at Tata Memorial Hospital.

Joining Maheka for the fourth consecutive year was filmmaker Karan Johar, whose continued association with the initiative underscored the importance of collective action in making critical healthcare accessible. In a world where access to quality treatment can often be determined by financial means, the evening served as a powerful reminder that compassion, when backed by commitment, can make a tangible difference.

Thirteen Years of Turning Hope Into Action

For Maheka Mirpuri, MCAN is far more than an annual philanthropic event. It is a mission she has nurtured over 13 years, working alongside Tata Memorial Hospital and the Taj Mahal Palace to support patients who need financial assistance for cancer treatment. The numbers tell a compelling story: ₹16.59 crore raised over the years and approximately 4,000 patients helped.

Speaking about his continued association with the cause, Karan Johar said, “This is my fourth consecutive year supporting Maheka and the incredible work she is doing through M-Can. I truly believe in this cause and the importance of ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent patients from accessing the treatment they need. Maheka’s dedication is inspiring, and I am glad to be part of an initiative that brings people together to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families.”

Reflecting on the initiative’s journey, Maheka Mirpuri said,
“Over the past 13 years, we have raised ₹16.59 crore and helped 4,000 patients access cancer treatment. This journey has been made possible by the generosity of everyone who has stood by us year after year. Every contribution represents hope for a patient and their family, and I remain deeply committed to taking this mission forward. Having Karan’s continued support, alongside that of our friends and well-wishers, means a great deal to me as we work towards reaching more patients in need. And I am glad to have raised INR 4.12 Cr this year.”

Bombay से Beyond: A Nostalgic Couture Postcard

While philanthropy remained the heart of the evening, fashion added its own theatrical flourish. Maheka unveiled her latest collection, ‘BOMBAY से BEYOND – POSTCARD TO REALITY’, a couture showcase that transported guests into the romance and nostalgia of vintage Bombay.

The Taj was transformed into an evocative tribute to the city’s cinematic legacy and old-world charm. Vintage cinema negatives, nostalgic visuals, heritage-inspired installations and a regal stage created an atmosphere reminiscent of Bombay’s golden era. The experience was enriched by curated food stalls serving nostalgic Bombay flavours, traditional tiffinwalas distributing postcards and a specially designed auto-rickshaw installation by Maheka.

Artists Dhanya Namboothiri and Gautam Mazumdar captured the evening on canvas, adding an artistic dimension to the celebrations. Saxophonist Ryan and singer Rachel brought music to the proceedings, with Rachel performing during the fashion presentation. The couture showcase became a celebration of the city’s cultural heritage, cinematic glamour and enduring spirit.

Maheka Mirpuri’s MCAN Charity Gala strikes that rare balance between fashion, celebrity and philanthropy, using the power of collective influence to address a very real human need. Raising ₹4.12 crore in an hour is an impressive achievement, but the larger triumph lies in the thousands of lives that have received a fighting chance through this 13-year mission. At MCAN, glamour has found its most beautiful purpose: giving hope a fighting chance. Kudos to Maheka Mirpuri and MCAN Charity Gala.
