TheGlitz was invited to the all-new luxe Megumi, a new high-end Japanese restaurant that has opened their doors in the pulsating suburbs of Mumbai. Inspired by Japanese Nikkei restobar, the restaurant was launched by Raj Shetty, founder and chairman of Ramee Hospitality. TheGlitz reviews…

Ambience: Relaxing yet chic – Megumi has a vibe

At first glance, Megumi looks super striking. The restobar’s 6000 sq ft floor space done up with an OG bamboo weaving style designed by Minal Chopra, has an amazing vibe. The bustling kitchen is right in the middle while the Live Sushi Bar offers a variety of exotic seafood sushi, maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi, carpaccio, and tartare, among others.

The Food

Chef Raman Udas, the former chef at Zuma, Dubai, has curated a unique menu that has the perfect balance with a surprise tantalising twist. The menu comprises traditional sushi with a unique twist, and ceviches featuring Japanese influences. We tried out the Toppogi — featuring potato-stuffed dumplings with gochujang, Tebasaki Wings — Stuffed chicken wings with chili nam jam, Chicken Karage and Yotta Wantan — Chicken dumplings in a secret soy broth. They were delicious though the Toppogi tasted a bit different for our palate.

The Dan Dan Xiaolong Bao and Megumi Mantou under the steamed menu were also pretty good. On the cold menu, we also had the avocado carpaccio. In the Robata segment, we tried out the Grilled Chilean Seabass which was cooked to perfection. In the Large plates segment, the Three Mushroom Claypot which included portobello, shitake and button soy mirin broth with truffle was very good too. We, however, did feel a bit let down by the service but perhaps, since it was the launch, they were super busy.

The Cocktails

Megumi’s cocktails too had a unique Japanese twist. We tried out Shikitogai – Vodka, Aperol, Pineapple, Pasionfruit shrub and flat fruit – it was good. After which, we had the White wine sangria and Earl Grey Highball and Sencha Highball. All in all, it was pretty good.

TheGlitz Verdict:

The ambiance at Megumi is beautiful. It’s on the ninth floor and the tall glass windows of the restaurant overlook the dazzling streets outside, while inside, the Japanese influence with its intricate bamboo weaving are the high points at this place. We loved the relaxing vibe. The food was Japanese with a twist and we quite liked it. The Cocktails were good too.
