The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre’s programming calendar for The Studio Theatre & The Cube, the ongoing exhibit at the Art House and upcoming line up of shows at The Grand Theatre.

  1. Light into Space’:
    1. About: Originating in Southern California in the early 1960s, the Light and Space movement uses light as both a concept and a material to create immersive experiences that interact with the audience, challenging fixed perceptions of reality. ‘Light into Space’ – NMACC’s sixth landmark exhibit at the Art House – shines a light on the works of some of the most popular counter-culture artists from this period, brought together in India for the very first time by the New York-based Dia Art Foundation.

He brings together several forms of classical Indian dance – Kutiyattam, Bharatanatyam, Odissi (and may also draw influence from Kathak) – to seamlessly blend trough a contemporary choreographic vision. His exploration of cross-cultural encounters, cultivated over the past 23 years, serves as the driving force for this groundbreaking showcase.

  1. Suryachi Pille’:
    1. About: Step into the hilarious, folly-filled, and frequently sweet world of four brothers – the sons of celebrated freedom fighter Surya. Three of the brothers bear the burden of their father’s legacy rather heavily, labouring in vain to live up to a delusional standard of generational greatness. Drama ensues when the fourth son goes against the tide, pointing out the fallacy in the situation, and trying to bring his brothers around. Narrated with lots of humour and empathy, the evergreen Marathi comedy has emerged as a long-standing blockbuster, winning over several generations since its maiden staging in 1978. Written by Vasant Kanitkar, directed by Pratima Kulkarni, and produced by Sunil Barve and Nitin Bhalchandra Naik, the story of Surya’s pille (kids) was revived in 2010 as an ode to the golden period of Marathi theatre. The crowd-favourite features stalwart thespians who bring an unmissable energy to the universal themes of family, love, and identity.

    1. Adding to the energy are talented singers like Divya Kumar & Charu Semwal, along with a 7-piece band. At the heart of the experience is the creative impulse to present their blockbuster hits as they had been conceived before these songs were released for film albums. From certified crowd-favourites such as ‘Apna Bana Le’ and ‘Chand Baliyaan’ to the soft romance of ‘Saibo’ and ‘Sun Saathiya’ or upbeat move-busters like ‘Nadiyon Paar’ and ‘Thumkeshwari’, the set list promises incredible range and power.
