With a 19% surge in Indian arrivals, Mauritius is redefining luxury travel, experiential tourism, and meaningful island escapes

Mauritius is no longer just a dreamy beach destination on every traveller’s bucket list… it is fast becoming one of the most dynamic and versatile international getaways for Indian travellers. As visitor numbers continue to rise and traveller preferences evolve, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is charting an exciting new course for the island nation. Reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market, MTPA recently concluded a successful three-city roadshow across Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Indore, showcasing the best of Mauritius to India’s thriving travel trade community.

TheGlitz explores how Mauritius is expanding beyond its postcard-perfect beaches to become a destination of experiences, wellness, celebrations, and discovery.

Mauritius – A Roadshow Designed to Inspire

Held between June 2 and June 5, the multi-city roadshow brought together an impressive delegation of 26 representatives from Mauritius’ tourism ecosystem, including luxury hotels, destination management companies, airlines, and experience providers.

The event attracted more than 300 attendees, comprising travel agents, tour operators, and travel media professionals, all eager to explore the latest developments from one of India’s most-loved international destinations.

Participants received comprehensive insights into Mauritius’ expanding tourism landscape—from luxury accommodation options and immersive cultural experiences to enhanced air connectivity and emerging travel segments.

The Numbers Tell the Story

The enthusiasm surrounding this gorgeous island is reflected in the numbers.

From January to mid-May 2026, it welcomed 25,930 Indian visitors, representing a remarkable 19.1% year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The surge highlights the island’s growing appeal among Indian travellers seeking experiences that blend luxury, authenticity, wellness, adventure, and cultural richness.

Beyond Beaches:

Today’s Indian traveller is looking for more than scenic views… they are seeking meaningful experiences.

Recognising this shift, MTPA’s renewed vision focuses on diverse traveller segments. Destination weddings continue to flourish, with the island offering world-class venues and hospitality infrastructure that make celebrations truly unforgettable.

The island is also emerging as a sought-after destination for MICE tourism, attracting corporate groups seeking inspiring locations for conferences, incentives, and large-scale events.

Simultaneously, wellness-conscious travellers are discovering this divine place as a sanctuary for rejuvenation, mindfulness, and transformative retreats, while younger explorers are embracing the island’s evolving experiences that encourage repeat visits.

A Destination That Feels Like Home

Speaking about Mauritius’ enduring connection with India, the charismatic Dinesh Burrenchobay, Chairman, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, highlighted the deep cultural and emotional ties between the two countries.

He avers, “India is close to Mauritius in every sense, geographically, culturally, and emotionally. Indian travellers often refer to it as a’ home away from home’, and yet each time they return we ensure that they find something new to discover.

Adding, “Mauritius is an island that reveals itself over time, and no two visits are ever quite the same, whether it is a family finding a new corner of the island, a couple celebrating a milestone, or solo travellers seeking something beyond the expected. This roadshow was our opportunity to bring that versatility and depth straight to the attention of India’s travel trade, and to ensure they can share it with confidence with their clients. We want Mauritius to be an unforgettable experience for our Indian travellers.”

Strengthening Partnerships for the Future

For Sunil Mathapati, Country Manager, MTPA India, the roadshow was equally about building stronger industry relationships.

He announces, “The roadshow revealed how genuinely curious and enthusiastic the travel trade community is about Mauritius right now. The hype among the Indian tourists is also consistently growing, as reflected in the statistical data. Events such as these will allow MTPA to channel that energy into stronger partnerships and better-informed selling. The conversations we had during the three-days gave us every reason to be excited about what comes next.”

Industry Voices Echo Optimism

The initiative received enthusiastic praise from both Indian travel partners and Mauritian participants.

The event also received high praise from the trade partners, underscoring the strategic value of MTPA’s outreach, Veena H, Wayfarers Hub – Bengaluru, added: “The Mauritius Roadshow in Bengaluru was outstanding and exceptionally well-organized down to the smallest details. Thanks to a full-day format, we had ample time for in-depth discussions and one-on-one meetings with quality hoteliers and B2B DMC partners that were genuinely fruitful. Kudos to the team for executing such a focused trade engagement platform—definitely one of the most productive roadshows I’ve attended this year.”

Ms. Jason Britter, Director of Sales Maritim Resort & Spa Mauritius, who participated from Mauritius added: “As a first-time participant, we were impressed by the quality of the organization, the professionalism of the program, and the strong attendance of travel trade partners in each city. The roadshow provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, establish new partnerships and better understand the evolving needs of the Indian outbound travel market. We were particularly encouraged by the strong interest shown in Mauritius and in our brand across all three destinations.

Making The Island More Accessible Than Ever

A key pillar of MTPA’s growth strategy remains enhanced connectivity.

The authority continues to work closely with airline partners to increase flight frequencies and strengthen access from multiple Indian cities. The goal is simple: ensure that growing demand from across India is matched by seamless and convenient travel options.

Currently, direct flights connect Mauritius with Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai through Air Mauritius, while travellers from Mumbai can also access the island through direct services operated by Vistara.

Adding to the destination’s appeal is the hassle-free Visa on Arrival facility for Indian travellers, making spontaneous island escapes easier than ever.

TheGlitz Says – The Next Chapter Begins

As India’s outbound travel market becomes increasingly sophisticated, Mauritius is evolving right alongside it.

The island’s future lies not only in its breathtaking beaches but also in its ability to offer richer stories, deeper experiences, and more meaningful journeys with every visit. Whether it’s luxury, wellness, romance, adventure, culture, or business travel, Mauritius continues to reinvent itself while retaining the warmth and charm that have made it a favourite among Indian travellers for generations.

And if the momentum generated by this successful roadshow is any indication, Mauritius’ next chapter in India promises to be its most exciting yet.
